Blog #2

Ø Describe your ideal Instructor/Professor.
My ideal professor is someone who isn't dry or monotone and doesn't just read word for word out of his or hers powerpoints. My ideal professor would use the powerpoints and relate to something that has meaning in the real world and something that would benefit us in the long run. Lectures are meaningless if the professor is just saying whats exactly in the book.

Ø “I knew it when I studied it, but I forgot it on the test.” How can students study differently to prevent this from happening?
Students can use cue cards to help them memorize what they need them to know and this would help then remember what they need to know without looking back at their notes. I also like to study the day before the test and go to bed early that way i have a good sleep and remember most of what i need to know the next day.

Ø How do you study for quizzes/tests?
I usually make study notes which help me remember what i need to know cause im writing it out again then i look over those study notes and occasionally get someone to quiz me if i have the chance to.

Ø What do you have trouble with on quizzes/tests?
Remembering defintions or fill in the blanks especially if theres no word box because the word box usually narrows down your choice of answers and without one its harder because you really need to know your stuff and its harder to choice the exact word that fits the right answer.

Do you feel as if there is any healthy fast food available to consumers? If so, where and why?
I don't eat fast food but if you really must eat fast food maybe a salad from mcdonald's or anywhere would be your best bet. Also to limit calories you can start by not adding so much salad dressing or dressings at all as they add calories on whatever you put them on especially subs. Most fast food also has tonnes of preservatives and i don't trust any of it even if they advertise how fresh their products are especially Tim horton's.

1) I feel frustrated trying to finish this blog and anxious to go home this weekend.

2) Intial observations of new environment- the scenery is just as nice as it is back home and there are alot of activities to do here.

3) Initial observations of classes- I thought classes were going to be really hard and i was nervous to start.

4) Observations i made about other students- Students here are very friendly and outgoing.

5) About your instructors- The instructors are open to help you and want you to succeed in everyway possible.

6) My biggest challenges academically this semester would be maitaining good study habits and trying to keep up with all the homework i have to do.

7) I don"t have anatomy this semester.

8) A few plesant events during my first few weeks were that i got to meet alot of new people and i went out and and got to know my way around NMU and the city itself.

9) I have good time management and force myself to do homework whenever i have free time instead of getting caught up in distractions.

10) I need to spend less time on being social and use more of that free time to read my assigned chapters.

11) To determine what to write done in lectures i usually write down what i think is important and what things i've learned during class that i have not heard of before.

12) The difference between active learning and passive learning is that actively taking notes on important information that you highlighted in your first read, ensures active involvement because it requires more mental and physical energy than merely reading the material or passively highlighting sentences with a hightlighter.

13) 2 quotes are: 1) "By midterms i had to lay on the bed to zip up my pants" this speaks to me because i want to strive to eat healthy and to not gain the freshman 15.
2) "I see kids get so hung up on grades that they miss everything else. College is more than a GPA" this speaks to me because i want to be able to balance a social life and to be able to study effectively.

14) 1 Goal for next week: i want to start early on my frist english essay and not wait till last minute.
